Giannis Giannopoulos, pianist

Born in Athens, Giannis graduated with a piano diploma from Athens Conservatoire as Dora Bakopoulou's student and with a Post-Graduate Diploma in pianogiannopoulosperformance from the Royal Academy of Music in London (Ian Fountain's class), with a scholarship from the Alexandros Onassis Foundation. He has given concerts with the Athens State Orchestra, the Thessaloniki State Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens. He has performed solo and in chamber music concerts in many cities in Greece and abroad (London, Paris, Moscow, Tokio, Fukuoka, Okinawa). He was recently honoured with the "Tim.Mykoniou" award from the Academy of Athens. For the years 2010-2015 he was appointed as a piano teacher in the Athens Conservatoire and the Coinservatory of Athens College. Since then, Giannis lives in London continuing with his artistic and teaching activities. He is currently on his masters degree in Orchestral and Choral Conducting in the Birmingham Conservatoire.

Dora Bakopoulos, pianist

Dora Bakopoulos was born in Athens. She studied piano in New York and at the age of 12 she returned to Athens and continued her studies at AthensdoraConservatory, where she graduated at the age of 17 (1st Prize) with professor M. Papaioannou. She continued her studies at Geneva Conservatoire next to L. Hiltbrand where she graduated (1st Virtuosity award, with distinction). She studied with N. Magalof, F. Gulda at Salzburg and P. Badura Skoda and A. Brendel at Vienna, where she was awarded. She was also awarded at Munich (Germany) and Vercelli (Italy) competitions. She has given recitals in Greece and abroad (London, Paris, Moscow, St Petersburg, New York, Lugano). She has been on tour in Germany and has performed for the United Nations. She performed as a soloist at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus within the framework of “Athens Cultural Capital of Europe” events and has represented Greece in cultural events abroad. She has collaborated with Y. Menuhin, M. Hadjidakis, D. Chorafas, V. Kolassis, M. Theodorakis, G. Demertzis, A. Kontogeorgiou, T. Christoyannopoulos, M. Farandouri, Martha Argerich, et al. Menuhin has stated: «few people in the world have this authentic rubato when it comes to Chopin». She has also participated in many international events near Vanessa Redgrave. In February 2007, having been invited by the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. C. Papoulias, him and Presidents of Bulgaria and Romania being present, she gave a recital along with Ellie Paspala at Sofia and Bucharest, within the framework of celebrations for those two countries’ accession to the European Union. She has recorded works of classical repertoire (Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Ravel, Scriabin, Rachmaninoff) and works by Greek composers (mainly M. Hadjidakis and M. Theodorakis). The Academy of Athens honored her for her contribution to music with Montsenigos award. She lives in Greece, where she has given numerous individual recitals and has participated as a soloist in concerts with Greek State Orchestras. In October 2008 she performed Brahms Concerts No. 1 with great success in collaboration with Athens State Orchestra at Megaron Concert Hall. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of Aegina International Music Festival.
